Putin tar nya (gamla) tag

Court sentences Bolotnaya protester to compulsory psychiatric treatment: A Moscow district court has found Mikhail Kosenko guilty of participation in clashes between protesters and police during an opposition rally on Moscow's Bolotnaya Square on 6 May 2012 and ordered that he undergo compulsory medical treatment at a psychiatric clinic.

Vedomosti cites head of the Agora NGO Pavel Chikov as saying that this was the first time in past years when judicial psychiatry was applied against civil activists in Russia. In an editorial, Vedomosti notes that Kosenko's verdict is the third one in the so-called 'Bolotnaya case' and recalls the use of 'punitive psychiatry' for political purposes in Imperial Russia and in the Soviet Union.
