Brev: Free Dawit Isaak!

Dear colleague,

We, the undersigned members of the Swedish Parliament, represent an all-party committee for Dawit Isaak in the Swedish Parliament. Since many years we have worked through various means to achieve the release of the Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak, who was one of the journalists arrested in Eritrea in September 2001. Since he has still not been released we are turning to you to ask for your assistance.

More than 8 years have elapsed since Mr. Isaak’s arrest and recent accounts from a prison guard who fled the country tells us that he is in poor physical and psychological condition in Eiraeiro prison. The Eritrean regime is not respecting its international commitments to honour human rights and has thus far not been responsive to our efforts.

We would like to ask you to assist in achieving an increase in the international pressure on the Eritrean regime to respect human rights and release Dawit Isaak on humanitarian grounds, for example in stopping all European development assistance, except purely humanitarian assistance.

Hoping for your urgently needed support,

Cecilia Wigström (fp), Annelie Enochson (kd), Staffan Danielsson (c), Helena Leander (mp), Hans Lindhe (v), Mats Johansson (m), Maryam Yazdanfar (s)
